Equine Photonic Therapy

Photonic therapy is 'acupuncture without needles'. It is a non-invasive effective therapy for acute, chronic or undiagnosed conditions & stimulates the body's own healing mechanisms. It works alongside, or independent of, traditional veterinary medicine. It can be preceeded by a 15 point assessment to pin-point the problem if there is an element of the unknown for your equine.

Photonic therapy uses 2500 years of traditional Chinese medicine & modern red light therapy to identify problems, alleviate symptoms & remove pain. It is a holistic blend of ancient & modern wisdom which is understandable, non-invasive & encourages the body’s own healing & regeneration.

Acupuncture is a well-known therapy & is used to treat a huge variety of conditions in humans & animals. Instead of using needles photonic therapy uses a red light to stimulate the relevant acupuncture points promoting the same healing effect but without the localised reaction to needle puncture.

Photonic therapy is used successfully for many conditions; colic responds very well to treatment, as do wounds. Longer term / chronic conditions can also be treated. In horses it can be used for hoof issues, including laminitis & navicular, bone issues such as arthritis & kissing spine, metabolic problems such as Cushings & allergies, fertility problems, anxiety, fear, historical mental issues, appetite, viral diseases; the list goes on. Many conditions can be eliminated, many can be alleviated; one huge benefit of photonic therapy is pain relief.

We see it as an invaluable part of rehabilitation for our clients but it can also be used as a preventative, by stimulating the body’s defence mechanisms to strengthen resistance. As far as we are aware this is the only place this therapy is being delivered in the North East.

Equines undergoing rehabilitation with us will have Photonic Therapy routinely. We can also provide it to other clients.

Does it hurt the horse?

No - the benefit of photonic therapy over acupuncture is that there is no localised swelling or reaction from a needle. It is completely non-invasive.

How do I know the therapy will be correct - I am worried it will harm my horse if it is wrong?

In the unlikely event that the therapy carried out is incorrect no harm will be caused - there will simply be nil effect on your horse's conditions.

My horse is on medication, will the therapy still be beneficial?

Yes the therapy can still help. If your equine is receiving steroid treatment we may need to adjust the therapy schedule to ensure it still does what it should. This is because steroids alter the way the body works, therefore affecting the photonic therapy's action.

Can the assessment diagnose my horse's problem?

No - only veterinary surgeons are permitted to diagnose. The assessment can inform us what the problem is & / or identify the area for investigation & facilitate the development of a therapy plan. For example, if your horse has a hind leg problem but you are unable to determine if it is the hip, hock or stifle, the assessment will indicate which one it is, allowing your vet to start in the most likely place. Photonic therapy can then be used alongside veterinary treatment.

I have a horse who is very stoic / hides pain well. How will the assessment show what the problem is?

The assessment works on reflexes, the horse cannot control the response given. The responses may be very subtle, but they will be there.

Can I carry out the therapy myself?

Yes, we can show you the therapy plan & where to use the torch on your horse. You can hire a torch from us or purchase your own. This is something you can support your horse with long term, after your initial therapy is completed, to boost their metabolism.

My non-equine pet has a problem, can you help?

Yes, please get in touch. We can also support you as an owner. Photonic therapy works for all.
